EQ – What is EQ or Equalization?

EQ or equalization is adding or taking away level (gain or volume) at specific frequency ranges. It is most commonly used during the mixing process to balance the frequencies of different instruments in a mix to avoid masking. The other two of the three purposes of EQ include using it to make things sound better and as an effect (telephone or through-the-wall effect).
